Child of the Light – 2016-11-16
As I drove home tonight, I was thinking about darkness… Isn’t night when we are most likely to allow worries to creep in? Nights are long right now, and it’s so easy to fall down into the dark rather than look up and celebrate the light. Darkness follows light – consistently, daily. And you cannot experience one without the other in due course.
We are children of the light, living in a dark world. When we allow the world, the worries of the world, to to close in around us, we lose our ability to really see. Have you ever stood outside on a moonless night? The stars are amazing! The milky way… and God’s magnificent lights in the sky.
I am often not a good sleeper, and there have been nights where I stood in the darkness in awe. The darkness does not overcome the light, but rather allows us to see the light more clearly.
Even when storm clouds veil the light, it is temporary, and when the clouds roll away, the stars appear all the brighter.
There are times when life seems dark – we lose sight of the light, we lose focus. Stumble, stand up again, hearts and hands raised in prayer, look up and see the majesty of the heavens light up the darkness. Let the darkness claim it’s own, but you are a child of the light.
Deeper still
11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. Romans 13:11-14
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit[a] is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. Ephesians 5:8-11 NKJV
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light I Peter 2:9
When I remember You on my bed,
I meditate on You in the night watches.
7 Because You have been my help,
Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.
8 My soul follows close behind You;
Your right hand upholds me. Psalm 63:6-8 NKJV
