Broken

51:17 New King James Version (NKJV)
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart—
These, O God, You will not despise.

Psalm 51:17 New King James Version (NKJV)

17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart—
These, O God, You will not despise.
In a world that values strength, this is an ugly verse…
A broken heart is not a bad thing… This says a broken spirit is not bad either – and I confess I struggle with that part of the verse.

Years ago, God gave me the visual of a bowl full of nuts… some are soft shelled, some hard. Walnuts can be hard to crack, but You know when and where to bring down the hammer. It is in the breaking that the sweet meat inside is accessible.

Oh Lord, You consistently break my heart to pour it out… it is sometimes painful, when You are teaching those hard lessons, but it is also amazing… I am blessed by it. I am so awed and amazed! It is when my heart is broken that you refill it with Your heart… and crack it open again and again. I’d prefer a hinge, but ok. You know best!

You bring so many hurting here… and I cannot help but love them… You have commanded it, but You have also put it in my heart. I pray today, Lord for these beloved children of Yours who are facing so much. The trail is easy compared to the journey which awaits when they return home. Refresh them in this journey, strengthen them for what lies ahead and pour Your peace and discernment out on these broken hearts. I pray that you will pour out in abundance that new heart and new spirit over Your precious, beloved children.

Ezekiel 36:26

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
