A Mary Holiday – 2017-11-06
Holidays are coming… My favorite holidays, which we pulled off several years (but unfortunately not all) I planned a “Mary” Holiday.
39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’[feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”
41 And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10
A Mary holiday is one in which prep is done early and we can visit with our guests. I am by nature, a Martha, fussing around with preparation. Honestly, spending all my time preparing, while guests are here, is poor planning. Yet, I have been guilty of it many times… planning more than time allows, and honestly, life happens to undermine our plans.
This year, I need the family time, and I’m working hard on “do it ahead”… to be a Mary…
a Mary focus: focus is family, not the food;
a Martha focus: focus on doing, rather than guest time
